About Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and our tours – it is safe to travel

Indeed, the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh has deep historical roots dating back to the Soviet era. The region’s complex history is marked by ethnic and territorial disputes, which ultimately escalated into a full-blown conflict after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. Since then, there have been periods of fighting, as well as attempts at ceasefires and negotiations.

Where is Nagorno-Karabakh

Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Artsakh, is a landlocked region located in the South Caucasus. It lies within the borders of Azerbaijan but is primarily inhabited by ethnic Armenians. The region has been a source of territorial dispute and conflict for many years, with both Armenia and Azerbaijan claiming it as their own. Currently, there are ongoing negotiations to determine the final status of Nagorno-Karabakh, with plans for it to cease its existence as an unrecognized independent state and fully integrate into Azerbaijani sovereignty on January 1, 2024.

Update October 2024

After the region was brought under Azerbaijani sovereignty, accompanied by a mass exodus of ethnic Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, the situation has stabilised. We remain hopeful that lasting peace will prevail in the region, fostering prosperity despite the unfortunate events of the past.

As of now, the situation is peaceful, and travel is unaffected. We continue to operate all our tours without any issues.

Conflict September 2023

Recent events have included government protests in Armenia, which have drawn attention to the ongoing challenges in the South Caucasus. Despite these developments, we want to reassure our clients that it is safe to travel on our tours. Our holidays are not visiting the trouble area.

There is currently no military fighting in the region and negotiations are underway to find a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The pursuit of a diplomatic solution and the potential integration of the region under Azerbaijani sovereignty represent positive steps toward ending the long-standing conflict and fostering stability in the area.
