Health and accident insurance will be mandatory for all foreign tourists travelling to Georgia from 1 January 2026. All visitors must carry valid coverage and be able to present a proof of insurance, either in digital or printed form, to a border control officer upon arrival.
Key requirements at a glance
🩺 Health & accident insurance becomes compulsory;
📱 The policy can be digital or printed, so you can simply show it to a border control officer on your smartphone;
🌍 The policy must be in English or Georgian;
🏢 Can be issued by either a Georgian or an international insurer;
💰 Minimum coverage: 30,000 GEL (approx. $11,000 / €10,000 / £8,500).
Insurance cover
Your policy must:
- Be valid for your entire stay, including arrival and departure days;
- Clearly state the name / surname of the insured person;
- Display Georgia as a covered destination. If your policy has Worldwide coverage, it should automatically be included;
- Show the coverage amount (note the minimums specified above);
- Include medical and accident risks;
- Display the policy start and end dates.
Most standard travel insurance policies already meet these requirements, but we recommend verifying the coverage limits (especially amount and territory) before departure.
